Jean-Paul Goude has been widely recognised since the 1980s as a multitalented “image maker” photographer, graphic artist, designer and film director. His vibrant avant-garde style incorporates sexuality and humour into illusory works and iconic advertisements. Still active today at 77, Goude continues his many collaborations with influential magazines and famous brands.
This two-part exhibition mounted by Goude himself comprises highlights from his collaborations with CHANEL and more personal works, as well as a live restaging of the dance spectacle Fire Installation, which Goude choreographed in 2001 for a showing of The Five Elements CHANEL jewelry collection.
Born in 1940, Jean-Paul Goude served as art director at Esquire magazine, and since then has worked with numerous influential magazines and famous brands throughout the world, including Chanel. Recognized as an “image maker”, he has had a diverse career as a photographer, graphic artist, designer and film director, in addition to collaborating with such renowned artists as Grace Jones. His major solo exhibitions include So Far So Goude, held at the Padiglione d’Arte Contemporanea in Milan in 2016, and Goudemalion, sa vie, son œuvre—Jean-Paul Goude une retrospective at Le Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris 2012.
